In the inaugural issue of Intercourse Magazine, Gibby Haynes, frontman of the legendary Butthole Surfers, shoots the breeze with Andrew VanWyngarden and Benjamin Goldwasser of MGMT. Gibby: Jesus, so this is the first day of your new record, huh? Do you have any kind of concept in mind? It’s going to be songs, right? Are you ready for a concept record? Andrew: No… Gibby: I mean, I’m not implying you’re going to do a country western record. How many songs you got? Andrew: I have 5. They’re like, based on REM. Gibby: You’re trying to emulate REM. Man, we lived in Athens for a while, and the guy at the barbecue stand that everyone went to was like, ‘I know you. You’re that - You’re that butthole man!
